A Proud Man

A Proud Man
a Proud man sat upright
Staring at the view
Sat beside the window
looking at the morning bright and new

The dew sits on each blade of grass
Glistening in the morning sun
A lark sits high up in the tree
The morning chorus has begun

A proud man sits upright
staring at the view
A squirrel scampers along a branch
With an Acorn safe in the morning hue

The soft thud of a car door closing
A car roars into life
A reversing engine straining
A gentle goodbye wave to his wife

A proud man sits upright
staring at the view
A distant clink of bottles
The milkman leaving milk and potatoes new

A bicycle with a gentle squeak
Trundles up the lane
A young boy delivering the daily news
Taking a sneaky peak through each window pane

The door opens so softly
A young woman with a beaming smile appears
A cup of tea Granddad
Proud eyes full of tears

Yes please one sugar,
and milk just a drop
The proud man sits upright
quite happy with his lot
